Whirling, twirling, through the air
Tickle feeling of my hair
Like a song without music,
A play with no words
A touch of a raindrop
The song of a bird

Graceful legs lifting,
A clear, crisp bend
The silent poetry
And the awe seem to blend
With a swish of a hand
An attention demand

With a slight shift of weight
The form, figure-eight
Arched back, what a pose!
On one foot, on my toes!
Then a graceful, down-spiral
Leaves me crouched on the floor

With a thud, magic broken
My spell is unbound
The silence, now breathing
The tension, unwound
I look at my feet,
No longer strong
I look at my legs,
No longer long

I want to learn dancing
Ballet, such an art
But now at my age
I've no clue where to start
But I'd deny to my friends
That I knew this great thing
I'd hoard it to myself,
My personal wings

I want to learn this
So when I"m all alone
Dancing to music
Of a different tone
I will feel beautiful,
Graceful, not what I am
This bland, ugly girl
With little demand

But my friends wouldn't know
I wouldn't go show
For it'd loose it's curse
Of the art
